J.Rocc spins new Madvillain (Radio rip)
- October 27, 2009
J.Rocc, with exclusives in hand as usual, jumped on the radio show Fat Beats Live on Eastvillageradio.com to preview some new Madvillain tracks that DOOM and Madlib are working on in Los Angeles.
DOOM might be performing some of this stuff at his L.A. show Nov. 21 (info). Don’t quote us on that.Source: http://www.stonesthrow.com/news/2009/10/jrocc-spins-new-madvillain-radio

here’s a random ass video embeded in a myspace bulletin from DOOM earlier this morning. i have no idea what it’s for, but DOOM’s mask can be seen at :33 and it was uploaded by jeff jank, pbw’s art director. what is it’s significance? i have no clue, it could just be a test video, but you’ll be the first to know when i do find out.

off of his upcoming album BORN LIKE THIS.
Ghetto children steady rotting but ain’t no stoppin
Rottin flesh under the sun
Makes a perfect place for a FLY to nest
Settle down inside the corroded chest
So it could raise it’s own seed, yes yes
Lies don’t know what it means to be oppressed
They got no feelings to express
There’s a tendency in bastardation we keep facin
A sell-out, there is no toleration, get the hell out
Or more bodies is wastin
A way in the street, in between the people basing
Dodgin rain drops out the sky, thinkin they fly
Ain’t that a bitch?
Rich or thick ass from the heads on the block
Not realizing they duty involves civilizing
Tryin to understand but FUCK IT
I need about a grand to get cash in my hand
Where maggots in the chest cavity
Gravity be workin against
And so they down playin the fence…
Refusin to fly, the maggot don’t quit
It grow into a fly and be on some next shit…
You will get yours within this time
I master mics and I master minds
Unconscious MC’s, it’s disaster time
Wasn’t my fault you couldn’t read the signs
Read the signs, read the signs
Wasn’t my fault you couldn’t read the signs
IMO, this is one of Kweli’s rawest verses. It’s an earlier piece that doesn’t have hella syllables per bar, like some of his later stuff. I like how he uses a fly, everyone’s favorite nuisance, as a representation for mainstream bullshit. Also note that this was the track he referenced in “Memories Live” off Reflection Eternal:
If I could make it in New York, I figured anywhere I’d make it
Came to Cincinnati linked with Mood, and we did Sacred
Hi-Tek beats became my favorite
Hustle on the Side was the cut
We started to put songs together like ‘What!’
If ya’ll never listened to MOOD’s DOOM, PLEASE get yourself a copy before their next release. This album isn’t your lovey-dovey type hip hop, this is that pound-for-pound social criticism served with raw beats type hip hop.
PS: Back in January, Kweli confirmed a Reflection Eternal sequel before the year closes, but we all know something with such a high degree of anticipation shouldn’t be rushed (like The Detox or Black Star 2, etc). Who knows, with December almost at its close, a mixtape could drop at a moments notice!
