The Political Re-Birth of Chicago Hip Hop: Alive and Accountable
Saturday, July 25, 2009
@ the Northeastern Illinois Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies
700 East Oakwood Blvd
The Political Re-Birth of Chicago Hip Hop: Alive and Accountable, is designed to answer a specific set of questions: What is the next step for Chicago Hip Hop as a political movement and what are the things that we’re moving towards? Wht are the actions and initiatives that are already taking place? What has priority and how do we get more people involved? What are the short-term battles that we can focus on and win, so that we can take the next step towards the bigger picture?
a 3 hour issue caucuses followed by a collective assembly will be used to update a political agenda for Chicago’s Hip Hop Community. The Summit’s main issue areas are:
The Green Movement, The Education Movement, The FCC and the Independent Music Movement, The Stop the Violence Movement, The Do For Self Economic Empowerment Movement, The Love for Women/Love for self Movement, The Ex-Offender Reinstatement of Human Rights Movement, The Elect and Support Politicians that Represent Us Movement
I applaud the initiative of the founders of this blog/forum and the organizers of this event. If you are in the Chicago area, this should be worth attending if you’re deeply interested in seeing the use of Hip-Hop culture as an effective tool for a grass roots social movement with a valid political agenda.
